Nurofen for Children Forte Strawberry 40 mg/ml, oral suspension, 150 ml

Nurofen for Children Forte Strawberry is an oral suspension intended for infants from 3 months and children up to 12 years. The active ingredient is ibuprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that relieves pain, reduces fever, and has anti-inflammatory effects. The included syringe ensures accurate dosing and easy administration.

Indications

  • Short-term treatment of fever
  • Relief of mild to moderate pain
  • Supportive treatment of middle ear inflammation

Composition

  • Active substance: ibuprofen 40 mg/ml
  • Other ingredients: citric acid monohydrate, sodium citrate, sodium chloride, sodium saccharin, polysorbate 80, domiphen bromide, liquid maltitol, glycerol, xanthan gum, strawberry flavor 500244E (propylene glycol, ascorbic acid (E300), natural and nature-identical flavoring substances), purified water

Action

Analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory.

Dosage

  • Children >5 kg (3–5 months): 1.25 ml 3× daily, max 150 mg ibuprofen/day
  • 7–9 kg (6–11 months): 1.25 ml 3–4× daily, max 150–200 mg/day
  • 10–15 kg (1–3 years): 2.5 ml 3× daily, max 300 mg/day
  • 16–19 kg (4–5 years): 3.75 ml 3× daily, max 450 mg/day
  • 20–29 kg (6–9 years): 5 ml 3× daily, max 600 mg/day
  • 30–40 kg (10–12 years): 7.5 ml 3× daily, max 900 mg/day

Shake well before use. Administer every 6–8 hours. Give with food if the child has a sensitive stomach. If symptoms persist >3 days, consult a doctor. Not recommended for children under 3 months or <5 kg.

Contraindications

  • Allergy to ibuprofen, NSAIDs, or any excipient
  • History of asthma, gastrointestinal bleeding, peptic ulcer, severe liver, kidney or heart failure
  • Active bleeding or blood clotting disorders
  • Severe dehydration or last trimester of pregnancy

Side Effects

Common: stomach discomfort, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, minor gastrointestinal bleeding.
Uncommon: ulcers, CNS disturbances (headache, dizziness, insomnia, irritability), skin rashes, hypersensitivity.
Rare/Very rare: kidney damage, liver dysfunction, severe skin reactions, cardiovascular events, severe allergic reactions, blood disorders.

Warnings and Precautions

  • Discuss with a doctor if the child has heart, liver, kidney, blood, or gastrointestinal conditions
  • Avoid in children with chickenpox
  • Long-term use requires monitoring of liver, kidney, and blood parameters
  • NSAIDs may mask infection symptoms
  • Serious skin reactions may occur; discontinue if rash or lesions appear

Interactions

Inform your doctor about all medications including anticoagulants, antihypertensives, other NSAIDs, digoxin, glucocorticoids, antiplatelets, phenytoin, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, antibiotics (quinolones), antifungals (voriconazole, fluconazole), methotrexate, tacrolimus, cyclosporine, sulfonylureas, baclofen, ritonavir, and any other prescription or OTC medicines.

Pregnancy, Breastfeeding and Fertility

  • Do not use in the last 3 months of pregnancy
  • Use only in first 6 months if advised by a doctor
  • Safe in breastfeeding at recommended doses for shortest duration
  • May temporarily affect female fertility

Storage

Store below 25°C, out of reach of children. Use within 6 months after opening.

Driving and Operating Machinery

Short-term use does not affect ability to drive or operate machinery.

Important Ingredient Information

  • Contains liquid maltitol: may have slight laxative effect; caloric value 2.3 kcal/g
  • Contains <1 mmol sodium (23 mg) per dose, considered 'sodium-free'
  • Propylene glycol: 16.45 mg per 5 ml dose
