Nurofen for Children Forte Strawberry 40 mg/ml, oral suspension, 100 ml

Nurofen for Children Forte Strawberry is an oral suspension suitable for infants from 3 months (≥5 kg) up to children 12 years (≤40 kg). It contains ibuprofen, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), that reduces fever, relieves mild to moderate pain, and provides anti-inflammatory effects. The included syringe ensures precise dosing and easy administration directly into the child's mouth.

Indications

• Short-term treatment of fever
• Relief of mild to moderate pain
• Supportive treatment for middle ear infections

Composition

• Active substance: ibuprofen 40 mg/ml
• Other ingredients: citric acid monohydrate, sodium citrate, sodium chloride, sodium saccharin, polysorbate 80, domiphen bromide, liquid maltitol, glycerol, xanthan gum, strawberry flavour 500244E (containing propylene glycol, ascorbic acid (E300), natural and nature-identical flavouring substances), purified water

Action

Analgesic, antipyretic, and anti-inflammatory.

Dosage

• 3–5 months (5–7.5 kg): 1.25 ml 3× daily (max 150 mg/day)
• 6–11 months (7–9 kg): 1.25 ml 3–4× daily (max 200 mg/day)
• 1–3 years (10–15 kg): 2.5 ml 3× daily (max 300 mg/day)
• 4–5 years (16–19 kg): 3.75 ml 3× daily (max 450 mg/day)
• 6–9 years (20–29 kg): 5 ml 3× daily (max 600 mg/day)
• 10–12 years (30–40 kg): 7.5 ml 3× daily (max 900 mg/day)

Shake well before use. Administer every 6–8 hours. Give with food if the child has a sensitive stomach. Not for children under 3 months or <5 kg. Consult a doctor if symptoms persist >3 days or worsen.

Contraindications

• Allergy to ibuprofen, NSAIDs, or excipients
• History of asthma, hives, gastrointestinal bleeding, peptic ulcer, liver, kidney, or heart failure
• Active bleeding or blood clotting disorders
• Severe dehydration or recent major surgery

Side Effects

Common: stomach upset, nausea, diarrhea, constipation, minor gastrointestinal bleeding.
Uncommon: ulcers, CNS disturbances (headache, dizziness, insomnia, irritability), skin rashes, hypersensitivity.
Rare/Very rare: kidney damage, liver dysfunction, severe skin reactions, cardiovascular events, severe allergic reactions, blood disorders, aseptic meningitis.

Warnings and Precautions

• Do not exceed the recommended dose or duration
• Avoid in children with chickenpox
• Use with caution in children with asthma, hay fever, nasal polyps, chronic respiratory disease, heart, kidney, or liver problems
• Avoid concomitant use with other NSAIDs, including COX-2 inhibitors
• Long-term use may lead to kidney problems or medication overuse headache

Interactions

May interact with anticoagulants, antihypertensives, digoxin, glucocorticoids, antiplatelets, SSRIs, lithium, probenecid, sulfinpyrazone, methotrexate, immunosuppressants, zidovudine, sulfonylureas, quinolone antibiotics, voriconazole, fluconazole, baclofen, ritonavir, aminoglycosides, and other prescription or OTC medicines. Consult your doctor or pharmacist before use.

Storage

Store below 25°C, out of reach of children. After opening, use within 6 months. Do not use after the expiry date.
